This relative of the giraffe is native to the Ituri Rainforest, located in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in central Africa. Its conservation status is Near Threatened. A superb capture of the okapi, Laurel! This is one unique and special animal, as it shows the attributes of a zebra, horse, giraffe, and maybe a touch of hyena on the head. A real treat to view, as they are somewhat on the rare side, as far as live captures on film. I appreciate your sharing of this fine shot with us.
