Yesterday, I came across a group of men moving a small herd from one pasture, down the road and into another grazing pasture just outside of Lake Charles Louisiana.

There I was in my shorts, polo shirt and deck shoes. Boy did I feel out of place since I would be usually be in Hat, Jeans and Boots any other day.

The lady in the SUV parked in the middle of the road blocking traffic for the small cattle drive stood and watched me until I had to justify myself by going over and introducing myself and telling her I too had grown up on a large ranch in Central Texas..

She just look at me and smiled and I know what was going through her head. "yea right... tourist."

We talked as they approached and I threw some of my cattle working memories at her just to try to quantify my love of ranching until finally she smiled and I think I got through to her that "I had been there, done that".


I hope that she shared that fact with the riders.
