Description
This is a depiction of a mare and foal that belonged to my late mother. The mare's head is slightly turned toward the "intruder horse" grazing near-by. Her ears slightly pinned in warning. Her foal is snoozing in the shade, oblivious to the surroundings.

I like the earthy calmness and subtle shadows
Elizabeth Lane replied:
Thank you, Heather! I am enjoying your topic on the discussions. Very thought provoking. In my painting the object was to capture the drowsy foal, with mama watching over, protecting, on a warm afternoon, as baby naps in the shade. I remember those days when my own mare had her little son. She was so protective and a good mama.

Elizabeth this is a sensitive painting and I like the colors and the restful feeling of it.
Elizabeth Lane replied:
I'm sorry Fred, I don't know how long ago you complemented me on this painting, but thank you.....the original has a "happy home", now. This scene is around the Austin area, in the late spring/early summer.
