Description
Dolly Sods Wilderness area is located in the Allegheny Mountains of eastern West Virginia, and is part of the Monongahela National Forest. Dolly Sods is a rocky, high-altitude plateau with sweeping vistas and lifeforms normally found much farther north in Canada. Dolly Sods is well known for its often extreme and unpredictable climate. Sun, rain, snow, and fog are all possible within an hour. Cool, wet weather prevails throughout the year. Although summer temperatures can reach the 80s or higher, frost is possible at any time of the year in higher elevations (above 4,000 feet) and winter temperatures dip well below zero. This is one of my very first images captured atop Dolly Sods. It was taken in the early spring with blistering winds and below freezing temperatures.
