Description
A young deer cuddles up to its mother for an afternoon nap at the Nara shrine.
Legend has it that when the first shrine was built at Nara -- near Kyoto, Japan -- a god arrived riding a deer. Today, the "shika" are still protected as divine messengers.
Nearby is Todaiji Temple, which houses the world's largest bronze Buddha.
This, to me, is a picture of trust. But I was also tempted to call it Afternoon of a Fawn.
