Description
Is it a Marmot that looks like a rock or a rock that looks like a marmot. A marmot in Rocky Mountain National Park, presses up against a rock wall and blends in quite well.
Marmots, actually large members of the squirrel family, mostly found in mountainous areas, typically live in burrows (often within rockpiles, particularly in the case of the yellow-bellied marmot), and hibernate there through the winter. Most marmots are highly social and use loud whistles to communicate with one another, especially when alarmed.
