The immediate, broad expanse of the gray pavement in this remarkable piece invites the eye irresistably into the design, the shaft of negative space (the sky) pointing our eye down and out immediately into the far distance, taking our gaze then up and out of the picture to the white light above. The monolithic expanses of human construction at left and right shoulder, or anchor, the over all design down solidly, massively, as only these phenomenal skyscrapers can do, in the bedrock of space and time -- that is, in the world in which human beings, as flesh and blood, live. Almost as if this design is emphasizing the confluence, or contrast, between the temporal and the eternal, one might term this a "cathedral", where those two worlds meet, in contrast with one another.
