This is inspired by the Chinese saying , "the lotus rises out of muddy waters untainted"(出淤泥而不染). Seeded in muddy water, the lotus manages to rise above it untainted, blooming beautifully, maintaining its utmost purity. Children raised in the most negative environment can also succeed against all odds while remaining true to themselves. People mired in this materialistic world can also rise above it and live a happy, pure and simple life.

The two sides of me... My sumi paintings are essentially monochromatic. I find boundless freedom in expressing myself through different shades of black, white and grey. I love to use minimal strokes capturing the essence while leaving enough white space for the viewer's imagination.
