Ganesha - The elephant headed lord is worshipped in all the parts of India. He is the lord of wisdom and every ritual (pooja) in Hindu culture begins after praying to Lord Ganesh. It is customary in Hindu culture that every new venture and new beginnings of life intiate after seeking blessings from him. The Ganesh festival, primarily celebrated in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, is an event that everyone looks forward to. It is one of the largest festival gathering of Hindu devotees spanning 10 days. The Lord is said to eliminate obstacles in his devotee's path and ensures happiness to everyone who chants his name. Numerous forms/shapes and sizes of Ganesha is common in India. The red color symbolizes worship and welcoming of his devotees.
The lord is known by his 108 names, of which, some are written in Devnagari font (Sanskrit) around the painting.
