Description
Lightning can illuminate with many colors, from bright white to pink, blue, and even green. It all depends upon the contents of the atmosphere and the power of the bolt. This energetic summer monsoon thunderstorm over Tucson, Arizona was particularly saturated, and the intracloud lightning lit up the cloud a vivid pink with every bolt.
After witnessing many flashes from inside the cloud, the storm finally kicked loose a bolt underneath as it balanced the electrical charge between the two sides of the storm. As many as 80 percent of lightning bolts are intracloud verses the cloud to ground bolts so eagerly sought after by most storm chasers. I was just happy this storm gave me one visible bolt to photograph, and then it gave me a couple more that I was privileged to capture.
This is the very same storm featured in my photographs "See The Sky About To Rain", "Summer Storm Clouds Mural", "A Stray Summer Thunderstorm", "Last Light At the Edge of the Stratosphere", "A Force of Nature", and "Tucson City Summer Lights" you can find in both my "Clouds" and "Lightning - Striking Images in Nature" collections. It was a most remarkable August afternoon and evening.
