When you think of books, you think of either a library, or a large room, filled with self help books, political best sellers, and coffee... Reading isn't really what it used to be, we have all sorts of entertainment we can choose, and books often get the back shelf when it comes to enjoyment of something.
In the past books were often leather bound, made by hand, by pro's that knew how to make a book look good. Hand made paper, gold gilt decorations, nice leather, hand printed, it was a real love affair to make them right. People buying them, that was their entertainment, their escape.
This is a bookstore, what it looked like in the past. They don't sell coffee and cake, there are no reading nooks. You can't read and leave. You pointed and hoped the guy saw the one you wanted. And hoped you like what you saw, because you would have to look at all of them otherwise.
Stores were elegant, sold stationary and writing instruments. The booksellers were great jumpers, the shelves were quite high, and there are no ladders. The woodwork is also quite elegant, and if you needed that last minute gift, they had that too.
