The Cajuns of Louisiana have used a hand-crafted flat bottom boat for years, commonly referred to as 'bateaux'. They are really interesting boats - simple yet subtle - the product of decades of refinements and tweaks. If you travel into Cajun territory in the Spring, you just may happen upon Bateaux de Bois Festival in Lockport, where everyone has been known to 'pass a good time'!
