Description
Montreal, imaged by a Landsat satellite. The main part of the city is on the west (left) bank of the St Lawrence River at centre frame. The river flows through Lac St Francis (bottom left corner), Lac St Louis (immediately south of the city) and toward the top right corner. Much of the river has been enlarged and dredged to form part of the St Lawrence Seaway, linking the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. The city's airports are Dorval (just below centre) and Mirabel ('v'-shaped object to the west). Note the strip-shaped fields typical of the highly-mechanised agriculture of Canada.
