Description
The ghostly apparition of a high speed train is but a blur in this long exposure photograph as an evening Deutsche Bahn Inter-City Express train leaves Köln Hauptbahnhauf, the Cologne Central Station on its way to Frankfurt over 200 kilometers to the south.
Cologne's Hauptbahnhauf is located mere meters north of Cologne Cathedral, where this photograph was made, and on the west bank of the Rhine River. As trains leave the station heading southbound, the tracks immediately turn east and cross the four-track Hohenzollern Bridge straddling the Rhine. Over 1,200 trains make this crossing daily.
Riding on the Deutsche Bahn ICE from Cologne to Frankfurt, passengers will be treated to a wonderfully smooth and quiet ride at speeds reaching 300 kilometers per hour (200 MPH) and travel the 210 kilometers in just an hour's time.
