Description
This was a piece commissioned from my by the model in the painting "Crimson Side" for the 50th birthday party of her friend Jenny, who's afflicted with Williams Syndrome, a congenital condition that until recently patients rarely lived intotheir twenties, much less middle-age. Jenny had met me at a party in Las Vegas and saw my cat art on a T-shirt I was wearing. That planted the seed for the commission. I wanted to give her something really colorful, and I have always admired the Chicanos for being so bold with color in their art, so I wanted to combine Renoir-like impressionistic brush strokes with the vibrant color of Chicano art. Jenny really likes her painting. I hope you enjoy it, too. No wacky surrealism, just cats this time around.

I so love your work, all the Cats and kittens and stories are wonderful, you are so gifted and smooth with a brush I just smile and let the wonderful colors and faces make me happy,

Thank you , Tim! This one was a lot of fun to paint since I was experimenting with something different from my usual approach with these cat paintings.

You Rock, Baron. Great story behind this one as well as some great felines. Well done. f/v/su

Another immediate fav along with lovely story about inspiration. Well done!
Baron Dixon replied:
Thank you, Alanna! Normally when I just paint these wacky cat paintings, they're mostly nonsensical, leaving it up to the viewers to bring their own interpretation to it. But the commissioned works, like this one, often have a story or a meaning behind them. The nice thing about this job was that I wasn't portraying a client's specific cat. She just liked my art, so I just did what I fancied would work for her. The white Persian cat in the front, though, is definitely my own white Persian, Binky, whose own backstory is interesting in itself.
