Description
Kidney stones. 18th-century journal page illustrating a variety of kidney stones. Across top are kidney stones from boys aged (right to left) 16-17, 8, 3, and 14. The 3-year-old subsequently died. The second and fourth rows show large and small kidney stones removed from adult cadavers. The large kidneys stone at lower right was voided by an adult woman. This page is from volume 7 of the 1734 edition of 'The Philosophical Transactions', an abridged collection of papers from the Royal Society. The original papers from the 1720s in 'Philosophical Transactions' were by physicians who were Fellows of the Royal Society.
