Description
Like the egyptian gods and goddess, they weared the amulet of the scarab on their neck. The scarab is called a kheper, its a part of the two souls of the dead and the spirit, ka and ba (i forget which one is which). Like the traditional scarab, it holds the sun with the wings and the moon by the legs.
In my version, the sun is the black opal being held by the legs and the silver disc is the moon being held by the legs.
This project took nearly 5 weeks to design, between casting and fabricating. The center piece
was casted with standard sterling silver, which weighs approx 30 pennyweights. The legs, disc, and bezel was all fabricated and mounted on through several steps of soldering, which wasn't exactly easy. The body is solid sterling silver and it takes time for it to heat up. The surface of the body was actually starting to burn before the legs were able to be soldered on. After several acid bath treatments, filing, sanding down, and polishing, I was able to take away all the burn marks.
The chain is held on by double thick jump rings to hold approx 45 pennyweights. It's a heavy and neat chunk of metal to wear. The picture is just about life size. It's approx 5mm long and 3 mm wide.
Cutting, filing, soldering, sanding, polishing, and casting made this project possible.
Because its holding a black opal, extensive labor work, and solid sterling silver...the item isn't exactly for sell, but the offering price starts at $380.00. I could cast something of a smaller design if your interested, please email for discussion.
