Description
This monster tug was built in 1919 by Bethlehem Shipbuilding for the U.S. Shipping Board as Butterfield. In 1922 she was sold to Consolidated Paper, who retained the name and brought the 150′ tug to the Great Lakes.
She was requisitioned by the U.S. Army in 1942, becoming LT-145, and was sold back to Consolidated in 1945. Her name was changed back to Butterfield at this time.
1957 saw the tug purchased by Roen Steamship Company, who converted the Butterfield to twin screw and renamed her John Purves that year.
It is a Twin Screw Tugboat with a 150’ LOA, a 27’Beam and 16’Depth.
