Description
Indigenous dancers perform in front of the Virgen de la Candelaria Sanctuary church in Puno, southern Peru. Puno's celebrations for the Virgen de la Candelaria are one of Peru's largest festivals, take place at the start of February (the 2nd is the official saint's day) and last for nearly 2 weeks. These dancers come from Capachica village not far from Puno, the women's beautifully embroidered costumes and unusual hats are very distinctive. The festival was added to the UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2014.
