Artist's Description
My husband, a mutual friend and I were dinning in a hotel by the beach, "Le Lambi", located at Port-au-Prince, Haiti. A fisherman's boat approached the patrons. He was selling cooked baby conch meat with a spicy sauce. A heating plate is set up over a metal sheet in his boat. The source of fire: a few twigs and dried pieces of woods. After warming the baby shells, he used a rock to get the meat out of the shell. He removed the minimal colored skin from the meat, rinsed the white meat with sea water, and placed the warm conch shell meat in a disposable cup into which he sprinkled a homemade hot sauce that he had stored in a gallon, by his makeshift kitchen. He then placed a toothpick over the conch meat for easy picking. The price: $3.00 Haitian dollars equivalent to 0.38 US cents. By curiosity, we approach the fisherman, wondering if we will not get sick. He said, "No. People come to me always and they never get sick." Well, it was the most delicious, natural, "healthy" entree we ever...

When the book is available, Nicole, I want to buy a copy:>) Please tell me how to get one when the time is right! I'm so, so happy you've done that!!!!! Congratulations and how exciting:>)
Nicole Jean-Louis replied:
Hi Carol! I will make an announcement as soon as my book is officially in production. This book contains all my artworks, accompanying descriptions, and comments from the FAA artists. I took the opportunity to elaborate on certain subjects. On page 242, titled: Final Notes on the Book, your name, Mr Otis L Stanley, and Bob Orsillo are on top of the list of artists I am grateful of. Who knows, I might give some publicity to FAA artists. Thank you Carol for sharing my joy.

This is lovely (as are all your works), and your description is as entrancing as your painting. The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well and allows him to live happily on his beloved ocean:>). Such a creative enterprise! I saw you mention the snow and feeling a little "down". Think of it as someone shaking powdered sugar over our world, decorating the cement and asphalt with pretty white:>). Or, as an option, grab a cup of tea and go paint some exquisite Haitian sunshine. Happy New Year, Nicole:>)
Nicole Jean-Louis replied:
Carol, your suggested imaginary thought, brought a smile on my face, :-) "powdered sugar over the world." I like that! I think that I will go and take my brush. I always took your advice Carol. You remember advising me to write a book? I did. My book is in production and I am waiting to receive my copy any day now. Yes, Carol, beleive it or not, you and some other friends at FAA have been my inspiration. Thank you so much, Carol!! Happy Holidays! :-)
