Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

This was a little pastel, plein air sketch I completed at the HPOCA Summer Show in Platte City, MO, where Daddy showed his pride and joy, the Oliver 60 he bought in 1947 after he returned from his stint in the Navy, WW II. He couldn't afford a truck or car AND a tractor. And they needed the tractor to farm. So for nearly three years, this was their only transportation. They went to church on it--to town--to visit friends. In case of inclement weather, they hooked up a wagon and covered it with a tarp--much easier, according to Daddy, than hooking up a team of mules. I call this sketch, "I Can Tell You Anything You Want To Know About This Tractor." Daddy loves to tell anyone and everyone about his one-owner tractor. He farmed with it until about eight years ago; he plows his garden with it now.
As a toddler, I sat underneath quilts in large frames as my mother, grandmothers, and their friends created delicate, feathery patterns with their stitches. Gazing up at the stained glass fabric, I watched them push their tiny quilting needles through the layers of muslin, cottony batting, and colorful squares. That is my earliest memory of beautiful art. Following their lead, I grew up sewing and quilting, and many years later, I began to explore drawing and painting, studying under the guidance of Susan Truex. I enjoy painting images of people and things that are important to me, whether its a still life of eggs or rusty heaps, portraits of family and friends, or landscapes of lush fields or dark alley ways. I am fascinated by...
