I find your work even more compelling, after reading your very informative comments that give historical and social perspective on Haiti. Your biography is very interesting too. You lived on several continents emerged in various, contrasting cultures - all which is reflected in and permeates your creativity. I love the colours you use, and the sense of balance and harmony I read from your compositions. This painting is very lovely. Congratulations on multiple Features.

I was indeed privileged to live in several continents and, as an artist, I had absorbed the many cultures I had encountered - I greatly appreciate the praise or glowing terms you qualified my work, compositions, and comments. I thank you Yvonne for the wonderful comment about my artwork.

Artist's Description

It is interesting to know that in Haiti, such is the case in all Caribbean islands, food produce are a blend of many cultural origins.

Each food produce has a history behind it. This history results from the exchange between the New World (1492) and the Old World (Europe).
This woman merchant is selling yucca, chili peppers, sugarcane, watermelon, and avocado.

Yucca--- Yucca roots are native to the hot and dry parts of North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Yucca can be conserved for a long time under the ground. This was the key to Tainos' survival. This sweet starchy vegetable is a good part of the Haitian diet; when boiled, it is often served with seafood, poultry, or meat. Besides the sweet yucca, the bitter yucca is made into flour and is used for cassava.

Chili peppers---Before Columbus arrived in the island of Haiti, the Tainos were spicing their food with chili peppers. Those chili peppers are the world's hottest chili....
