This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks

Portrait of Rabbit Skin Leggings, a Nez Perce warrior, painted in 1832 by American artist, author and traveler George Catlin (1796-1872). Catlin probably painted this portrait of in St. Louis, or aboard the steamboat Yellowstone, in 1832, during a visit by Rabbit Skin Leggings and fellow Nez Perce in search of a 'black book' (the Bible?) that they had heard would give them magical powers. Catlin noted the dignified bearing of the young men; the attention to detail in the elaborately beaded tunics and beaded and feathered hair reflect his regard for his subjects. Native Americans, he wrote, were “the finest models in all Nature, unmasked and moving in all their grace and beauty.” Catlin's efforts to document the life of these peoples in the early nineteenth century offers a unique record of this rich and diverse culture as it was before war, disease and migration from the East shattered their world forever. Rabbit Skin Leggings died in battle with the Black Feet tribe on the Salmon...
