Description
One of the most beautiful things that I've seen is layered mountain ridges, forested and undeveloped as far as the eye can see. I grew up in Northern Virginia where every nook and cranny was game for suburban and retail development. To spend time in a place as grand and blessed with natural beauty as the Great Smoky Mountains is always a treat.
This view can be seen from the Oconaluftee Stream Valley Overlook along Newfound Gap Road (US-441) near Cherokee, North Carolina. The side lighting always provides some of the most beautiful highlight and shadow at this location. A sunrise from this overlook is always worth the effort to get up early, camera or no.
