Description
I made this image standing on the Seawall Boulevard in Galveston, TX. The best time to photograph the full moon is when it has just risen from the horizon and there's still some light in the sky. The luminosity of the astral body must match that of the sky and the surroundings, and you only a have a window of a few minutes to do this!
Consulting the Photographer's Ephemeris application, I knew exactly when and where the Full Moon was going to rise on the Gulf of Mexico. I made the hour and some minutes drive from Houston, and after photographing a few landmarks around the island, I set up my gear on the seawall. Overlooking the beach and the Historic Pleasure Pier, I knew that the moon was going to rise at 7:45, so I figured I could try some compositions until it would stand next to the Ferris wheel. It is not easy to shoot with a telephoto lens at this time of the day, since there's not much light available, and it was extended to 240mm. The ISO must be raised, -thus introducing more noise to the whole image-, and the diaphragm must be set at the highest aperture, or lower F-stop. Somme postprocessing must be applied in order to modify the exposure and contrast, and eliminate some of the noise. Thanks for looking. FAA watermark WILL NOT show on final printed image.

By the way, I really enjoyed reading your description of what it took to make this photo -- this was not just a chance snapshot, but something you planned and executed to perfection. Well done!
