1st in a series of colorful animal portraits:
Labrador Retrievers have three basic coat colors; black, yellow/golden, and chocolate. Hue dominance is in that order chocolate only having became an officially recognized breed in the 20th century. However, the presence of certain genes can produce a gray/silver or fox red colored coat like the beautiful dog illustrated in this painting.
Fox Red Labrador Painting, is a cute dog stroke-by-stroke digital brush painting. This labrador retriever has an amazing facial expression! Pleading for attention with big brown loving eyes, a slightly protruding tongue, and a tilted head, his/her goal is accomplished! One can’t help wanting to reach out to pat it’s head, scratch it’s ears, and/or give it that special treat.
This colorful pop art style pet portrait started out as a blue pen line drawing, next came laying in the shadowed areas with cool shades of blue and black utilizing digital brushes and pens one stroke at a time. Then the lighter areas and highlights were painted in with a variety of warm reds, oranges, and yellows. Last but not least, was the almost always necessary tedious edge touch ups.
The contrast created by using cool blues side-by-side with complimentary oranges makes this image pop!
