Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Elizabeth Kenny (1880-1952), Australian nurse and pioneering polio therapist. Kenny developed her method for treating polio patients in the 1930s, aimed at reducing the paralytic effects of the disease. The method used hot compresses on affected limbs, as opposed to immobilisation with plaster casts and splints. She travelled to the USA in the 1940s to present her methods to American doctors, and several Kenny treatment centres were opened. In this photograph, which dates from 1950, Kenny is waving to people from the ocean liner Queen Mary, which travelled between the USA and Europe.
