Elfin Forest

A lovely autumn trail
into the forest
leading to Benton Falls,
part of the Cherokee National Forest
in Tennessee
in the Chilhowee Recreation Area.
This is the prettiest trail
in the autumn,
with lots of color
in the maples
and oaks along the way.
The trail is easy,
almost level
with just a few undulations
leading up to the Benton Waterfall.
The waterfall is about
60 feet high
with the water
spilling over granite rocks.
The lighting is especially pretty
in the mornings with sunlight
creating rainbows in the misty water
and the trail is gorgeous
in the early summer
with the vibrant greens
but particularly in the autumn.
