Description
A beautiful and tiny Eastern Phoebe, Sayornis phoebe, sits perched on a tree branch as the leaves in the background begin to change color as fall is approaching. Per allaboutbirds.org, "In 1804, the Eastern Phoebe became the first banded bird in North America. John James Audubon attached silvered thread to an Eastern Phoebe's leg to track its return in successive years." There are three species of Phoebe: Eastern Phoebe, Say's Phoebe, and Black Phoebe. A fun identifying mark for this quick and small bird is the way she flips/wags her back tail as she sits on a branch.
