East side of the moon. Geologic map of the moon based on data collected from the Apollo space missions and Lunar orbiter spacecraft. Regions are coloured according to reflectivity and correspond to surface features, such as major impact craters, basins, plains, faults, mountains and other landmarks. The large red circular region (middle left) is the Mare Crisium, a flat lunar basin measuring 555 kilometres in diameter easily visible from Earth.
