FEATURED PHOTO: Beauty of this World Group - 12/10/12
The trunk of a Macarthur Palm tree (Ptychosperma macarthurii) with its surface multiple roots formation sprouting out from the bark, which eventually took the form of their crown. Indeed, these surface roots are remarkably beautiful in their multiple irregular, curved, intercrossing, interconnected and varied formations. Macarthur Palms, originally from New Guinea, Australia, are noted for their multiple, slim, ringed grey trunks which are topped with soft green, feathery, flat, broad leaves. They are mostly often seen 10 to 15 feet in height. The crown-like formation at the base of the trunk, from which the roots emerge and expand deep into the earth while also showing their superficial beginnings, is in itself a remarkable sight. The image has been lightly manipulated to enhance contrast and to bring about the potential of colors that can only exist in nature.
