dream house
one minute
i was having coffee with a friend
in that small cafe down near the railroad station
and the next
i was walking through an unfamiliar house
couldn't place how i got there
although i felt fine
no dizziness no pain
and all my parts seemed to be in working order
i wondered if i'd had a stroke
because i really couldn't remember how i'd got there
or why
silent in its elegance
furnished with a mix of old and new
the house seemed to breathe as i breathed
i wandered
upanddown
hallwaytohallway
roomtoroom
paintings i recognized
lusted after
admired
were everywhere
i knew one van gogh
the night cafe
was hanging in new haven last i saw it
now it was here
the library was a cathedral more than a room
highceilinged
windowed in stained glass
instead of pews shelves over shelves
crammed with manuscripts folios books
ancient to modern
vellum and leatherbound
board and paperback
enough words to last a thousand lifetimes
the kitchen was to die for
every bathroom
and there were many
a spa
when i finally reached the topmost floor
the stairs gave out on long hallway
with nothing but bedroom after bedroom
on either side ending
at the doorway of another
it was large
furnished somewhat plainly
iron bedstead bookcase armoire
pillowy victorian easy chair
and in the corner a small table
on which a lamp glowed
soft orangegold
which was odd because
there was no cord
in fact i hadn't seen a lightswitch
or an outlet anywhere at all
as i stood puzzling over this
the light intensified
rippled out into a cloud
enveloping me
and the room fell away
and i was the light
and i heard you say
i missed you so much
and we were flying

Gina, I love how your words lead the viewer beyond and through. We both are entranced by glowing, luminous light. I love, love this. F/L

The nostalgic image drew me in, but then the story poem really got me - beautiful work, love both the image and the story, which was fascinating with a wonderful ending :) Happy New Year to you, Gina! l/f

Here is a deceptively simple scene - the glowing light and tones more than make up for the sparsity of the subject and create a mood that envelopes the space and then the viewer. Very evocative, Gina.

I saw this fabulous piece featured in a group a couple of days ago and meant to stop and admire more closely and leave a note but got distracted. So glad I was able to re discover it ... beautiful glow ... love the simplicity of the scene ... there's a familiarity to this one that goes right to the heart. l/f

RC this is beautiful, I love the lighting. I agree with your and Bonnie's discussion, simplicity is often more difficult to achieve than just a straight shot. This is gorgeous... L/F/P Taking this to my favorites..

...you are right - I should have said "seemingly simple" (but that would have been too many esses)!
