Description
The rain had fallen for days and the field was so muddy that I worried about bogging down, but the rain had given me cabin fever and I had to get out and take some photos. When I drove by this field of sunflowers just outside the town of Ellijay, Georgia the rain was still falling, but it seemed to be letting up. When I was about a half a mile past the field the rain stopped. I kept going, but my mind kept going back to that field of sunflowers. I had probably traveled 5 or 10 miles past the field when I could take it no more. Turning around, I traveled back to the sunflowers.
After walking/wadding out to the flowers, I had taken several photos with the light of the heavy overcast above, when suddenly a streak of light emerged from the clouds as a spot of blue appeared in the sky. The light patch was small, but beautiful. As quickly as the mud allowed me to travel, I managed to get to the illuminated section of the sunflower field and to take a couple of photographs. Within a few moments the light patch had grown as the clouds moved. Soon the entire field was filled with light. As beautiful as a sunlit field of sunflowers is, I still found this photograph, with it's small section of sunlight to be the most beautiful and hopeful.
