Description
"Cheltenham Badlands" by Debbie Oppermann. We were amazed at the incredible beauty of the unique Cheltenham Badlands in Caledon Ontario Canada. It is a small area that reminds you of Mars with its exposed and eroded Queenston Shale. Because the rock is so sensitive, it erodes easily, creating the rolling red dunes that look like another planet! The rills and gullies, the barren nature of the land and the unique formation were hypnotic. The Cheltenham Badlands have been named an Earth Science Area of Natural and Scientific Interest, ANSI, by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and are also part of the Niagara Escarpment which makes them a key feature of this UNESCO - designated World Biosphere Reserve.
