Charlie Birger (1881-April 19, 1928) and his gang. Before prohibition he was a saloon keeper and then became a bootlegger operating from Harrisburg, Illinois. His gang defended his fellow drinkers against the anti-alcohol KKK. Charlie Birger was publically hanged for the murder of Joe Adams, the mayor of West City, Illinois, on April 19, 1928.
