Description
Building Noah's Ark. Noah (upper left) is receiving a divine message warning him of the impending flood for which the Ark is being built. The joiners constructing the Ark are using typical technology of their time. At far left, a plank is being trimmed with a carpenter's adze. At lower left, a box plane is being used to smooth a plank. To the right, a two-handed saw is being used to cut a beam into planks. In the foreground, two men are measuring out a plank. In the background joiners are erecting the wooden framework for the Ark. This artwork is from a 14th century cycle of frescoes by Piero di Puccio in the Campo Santo, Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa, Italy.
