Description
Original Fine Art Photography by Donna Kennedy
Photographed in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
The hoodoos at Bryce Canyon National Park are carved in the Claron Formation. Limestone, siltstone, dolomite and mudstone make up the four different rock types that form the Claron Formation. Each rock type erodes at different rates. The rock's resistance to erosion is what causes the undulating shapes of the hoodoos.
The main natural forces of weathering and erosion that create the Hoodoos are ice and rain. The elevation in which Bryce Canyon is located receives both above freezing temperatures and below freezing temperatures over 200 nights out of the year.
