Description
This bristle cone pine tree died, but many of it's neighbors are more than 4,000 years old and all are in the White Mountains in California. Here's more than your probably want to know about these magnificent trees. The Bristlecone Pine tree is one of the oldest known living thing on the planet. Dated 4,000 years old or more, all are located in the White Mountains and many are found on the Methuselah Walk. Mere size does not mean age as these trees are slow growing and rarely get larger than 70 feet. Some of the old trees add only and inch or less of rings per century and have the remarkable ability to shut up shop almost everywhere throughout its stem in a very dry year and reawaken to add many new cells in a favorable year. These misshapen, battered dwarf trees have managed to eke out a living in very dry climates and have been around since King Tut was a boy. Here's to The Ancients!
