Contemporary Still Life
An unusual still life. A lamp sits on a bookshelf and provides the only light in the home office corner of the room at night. It illumines the file boxes next to it. Painted in Digital oils and watercolours in a warm colour palette of orange, yellow, brown, beige, and deep dark red, with white on a black ground, in a wild, primitive, intuitive, and free style, and looking up at it while seated from below. I like this lamp, I like tiny lamps. I have painted this one a lot. I love the way it lights up inside the rectangular space of shelf, providing it with its own sculptural space and platform, and making a naturally geometric composition.
I like this in a mandarin mat with a brown wood or dark gold wood frame.
