It was a gorgeous predawn morning, photographing the colorful sky over Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park, Montana. But as the sun began to rise, the colors faded. I stuck around long after the bold colors had gone before I finally began packing up my photo gear to head back to my hotel.

Suddenly, the sun peeked over the eastern mountains and the lake was instantly covered in a misty, foggy, ethereal light. I was shocked! I thought any real photo op was long gone. I grabbed my tripod, changed to a long lens and captured this serene image just before the sun rose higher and the scene disappeared into harshness.
