Benign tumour of the small intestine. Endoscopic view of a lipoma (left) under the mucosal lining of the descending part of the duodenum. Lipomas are benign (non-cancerous) tumours composed of fatty tissue. They are the most common form of soft tissue tumour and are generally painless. Treatment of lipomas is usually not necessary unless they become painful or large enough to cause an obstruction, in which case they are cut out in an endoscopic procedure.
