Description
Late one afternoon, a female California Carpenter Bee was so drawn by this Tracyanum cymbidium orchid flower on my porch that she crawled into the flower and got the sticky pollen sac caught on her back. The bee wound up with so much "glue" on her legs that she became stuck to the flower's petal......The sac was on her wings and I didn't dare try to dislodge it for fear of permanently damaging them. She didn't move at all even when I tried to help her by gently moving the petal by her legs. I decided to let nature take its course, but the following morning she was no longer on the plant! I searched the pot and porch thoroughly, but no part of her was there..... I like to think she escaped and went on to other flowers more suited to her......Female California Carpenter Bees are black, whereas the males are a golden color. The males buzz each other around flowering plants in early spring, probably to "claim" their territory above the blooms.

Margaret, I still think of this bee every time I see others like her buzzing my garden!

Thank you, Tessa. It is one of the most memorable photos I've taken. I still wonder if she somehow managed to fly away.
