Description

This drawing of a red-flowering stem of bat-faced cuphea, hovering over the blue shadow-pattern of the outdoor potted plant, was done with water-soluble colored pencils on speckled tinted Canson paper. The original is about 9 1/4" wide by 10" high. Bat-faced cuphea is native to Mexico and Central America; it grows as a perennial in Tucson, Arizona as a container plant or in a shady, irrigated but well-drained garden bed.
