Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

This beautiful baby pineapple comes out from the center of its host plant. It takes 24 months to grow one pineapple here in Hawaii, but it's worth the wait.
Don't pick or buy a under ripe pineapple thinking you can ripen it some more at home, like you can with bananas. Pineapple fruits stop the ripening process once they are picked and should only be picked once fully ripen.
The pineapple is a traditional American symbol of hospitality. Pineapples are still used on door knockers, door mats, mail boxes, and on house markers as a symbol of hospitality and are given as a symbol of welcome or friendship.
I've lived in Hawaii since 2002, 1200 feet above sea level, on the small rural island of Moloka'i. It is very quiet here, with only about 7,400 residents. I appreciate the quiet life after spending 35 years as a commercial illustrator, senior art director and design director for major advertising agencies and design studios in Chicago, San Francisco and Palo Alto California. I've always loved cooking. In 2002 that love led me to a degree in the Culinary Arts just before moving to Hawaii. Since then I designed and built a house, worked in local restaurants, self-published three cookbooks, and took up photography as a hobby. Now retired, I spend most of my time developing recipes and photographing them, plus researching and writing...
