Description
Marina City is a complex of buildings located in Chicago, Illinois. The group includes an auditorium structure, a hotel and (2) sixty-five story residential towers. Positioned on the north bank of the Chicago River, the complex also includes a small marina for docking pleasure craft during the boating season. Architect Bertrand Goldberg designed the buildings in the late 1950's and construction was finished in 1964. At the time of completion, the Marina City Towers were the tallest residential buildings in the world and the tallest reinforced concrete structures in the world. The towers are commonly referred to as the "corn cob" buildings.
