My overwhelming need to paint our flag during one of our history's darkest moments....a flag that remained strong in the face of unspeakable horror on 9.11.01. If you will, I painted this image to express my own sense of grief and all consuming sadness for the lives lost to us on that one day. This need was not to be ignored.

As an artist, I have always been drawn to the essence of an emotion. A well thought out composition and the direction of the light is essential. What is it that I can offer the viewer that can draw them into the relationship between my images and their own personal reflections? How does a subject sit in the atmosphere, how does the light play upon the surface that makes it come alive? This is what I strive for. My hope is to offer a unique way of rendering a subject that draws you in. People tell me what they see in my images is often entirely different than what I was trying to say.
