This is a man i met in Khaelitsha Township, near Cape Town South Africa. The incredibly beautiful masks i found in that country inspired me to make a painting of a face with these masks. With earth colors, the texture of sand, the shimmering of gold in the light on the face of the man, the portrait gets a timeless atmosphere, dreamy, nostalgic maybe. It promises treasures and hidden wisdom, passed from one generation on to the other. On the background you see South African newspapers in different languages, in English, Xosa, with zebras and modern newspaper articles. The face and masks have been painted with oil.

Painter in Barcelona. One of the many good things that my mother did when i was still a toddler, was putting up a large blackboard in the living room, and giving me chalk to draw with. Drawing was basically how i spent my days, ever since. People who pass by the art markets that i attend ask: when did you start. Well, i never stopped. Sure, life gave me other items to chew on as well, growing a kid as a single mother, adventures in many countries, work as a coach, and as a writer of a book that advices parents about dealing with their teenagers ('Hoezo Lastige Puber,' sold out), but the canvas always waited around the corner. Since a few years i live from my art, enjoying sun and free spirit in Barcelona, Spain.
