"Father"...
...He signs "Father" in American Sign Language (ASL) - that's who he is. He is a father, dad, daddy, or grandpa maybe... the "Father Figure." In American Sign Language, many male signs are portrayed on the forehead, in contrast to female signs that are made on the chin. I also have a painting for "American Sign Language Mother" in my gallery. Both of these parent paintings show a slightly larger hand touching the face. Why? Because being a parent is an huge job! The size of the hand also lends itself to the modern/pop art feeling, as if the hand comes first, and then the face. As the artist, this was my choice to do, showing the importance of the job of a parent by the focus on the hand that carries the message. Placement on the head simply tells the viewer if the parent is the mother or - as it is here - the father.

This painting is mixed media and incorporates a variety of artist tools. The colors are bright and happy. Overall, the piece is somewhat modern, perhaps post-modern. As wall art, it would fit motifs that are contemporary, even pop. The design in clean and fresh. Notice that his eyebrow is formed by the word "Father." (The same is true of the painting for "Mother." The word is spelled out in the curls of her hair.)

This painting is available on canvas, as a matted and framed print, a rolled print (the buyer mats and frames), an acrylic print, a metal print, poster, or cards. On Pixels.com (Fine Art America's sister site) it is also available as a phone cover.
................................................................................................................................ The original of this piece is available for sale for $80. It is painted on watercolor paper (stiff like cardboard and textured) and is approximately 9 X 12. The painting is ready to be matted and framed under glass. Should you want to buy the original, please contact the artist by using the link provided. The $80 includes packing and shipping. There are no additional costs. It should also be noted that the original is not quite as bright as the image portrayed here - the colors are slightly softer, more in keeping with the medium of watercolor. The outlining is done with ink.
