Adenoma of colon. Light micrograph (LM) of affected human gut. Adenomas of the colon, also called adenomatous polyps, are quite prevalent. Adenomas are benign tumors of epithelial tissue with glandular origin, glandular characteristics, or both. They are found commonly at colonoscopy. They are removed because of their tendency to become malignant and to lead to colon cancer. Magnification: x 80 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
