Description
When one thinks of Jerusalem, a windmill is about the last thing that comes to mind but there is a reconstructed windmill that stands in Yemin Moshe, a neighborhood outside of the Old City in Jerusalem.
The original windmill was built in 1857 to provide jobs for the city's Jews and affordable flour. It was financed by the philanthropist Moses Montefiore, who supported a lot of Jewish agricultural settlements throughout the area at the time.
Here, one can see the red tile rooftops along with the towering cypress and palm trees. I have turned the image into a digital painting to accentuate the colors and make it all more vivid.
